ERBA
Kids

The Summer Sea Kayak Adventure Program for
kids meets daily at ERBA, located at the ERBA
BARN, One Main Street, Essex, MA. The Barn is
now our center of operations and is located at the corner
of Route 133 (Main Street) and Western Avenue.
Boys and girls ages 9-15 will spend their week learning
the sport of sea kayaking. We will begin on the quiet tidal
estuaries of the Essex River, and Chabacco Lake. As the Students
become comfortable in their kayaks, we will work on wet exits,
aided and self rescue techniques, and paddling strokes. Safety
is stressed at al times, as is having FUN! Lots of in-water
games are played to develop the paddlers’ self-confidence.
As their paddling skills develop, longer, more challenging
trips are planned. The students work on strokes and braces
and learn about seamanship and safety on the water. The Level
1 week culminates in a daylong journey planned entirely by
the participants.

Our staff is trained in first aid and CPR and carries first
aid kits as well as two-way radios for emergencies. Out low
staff to paddler ratios allow each paddler to progress at
his/her own pace. As their skills develop and as they meet
the challenges presented them, students become more comfortable
within their group and develop confidence in their abilities.
Two levels of our Summer Sea Kayak Adventure Program
are offered. Level One, half day is intended for
young paddlers with limited or no experience in sea kayak.
Level One half day programs meet Monday through Thursday 8:30
a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Level Two paddlers will continue developing
their paddling strokes, braces, and rescues on longer, more
difficult trips and will work on developing more advanced
skills such as rolling.
Sea kayaking is an ultimate way to explore the beautiful
area. Learning about the sport safely with enthusiastic instructors
is the best way to develop a life long love of sea kayaking.
We hope your son or daughter will join ERBA this summer for
a week or more of paddling adventure.
